At 10 Minute Walk we know how important local #parks are to communities, and right now, safe access outdoor public spaces is more precious to all of us than ever. We’d like to share some of our thoughts with you around connecting with nature in this moment in a short thread.
First and foremost, it’s very important that everyone follows local guidance surrounding parks and social distancing. Keeping everyone safe is most important. If your parks are closed, please respect that and wait until they’re open again to visit.
If your parks are still open, please pay close attention to CDC guidelines and any signage at the park. Right now, that means avoiding group play and staying 6 feet away from other folks both when you’re in a park and on your walk to and from your home. https://twitter.com/NRPA_news/status/1240736028580876288
Some of us don’t currently have access to a park in person right now, but there are still many great ways to interact with nature. Here are a few options:
1. Explore what you can see out your windows! Even looking at trees or flowers in planters has been shown to help people feel better when they’re ill or under stress. https://cards.twitter.com/cards/18ce53vwppj/9c7k3
2. Spend some extra time with your houseplants if you have them. It may not be a park but taking care of your indoor greenery can be soothing. https://cards.twitter.com/cards/18ce53vwppj/9c7ke
3. Take advantage of online nature resources! All kinds of virtual tours of parks, zoos, etc. are becoming available and they’re great activities for people of all ages to explore.
