So, since quarantine started, I've seen a lot of people say they're sleeping poorly & having nightmares. I think with quarantine breaking our daily structure, we aren't keeping our brains as routinely distracted so there's less day-to-day "clutter" blocking the path to our
unconscious mind. If you're not familiar with the psychology, there are three levels of consciousness: the conscious, preconscious, and unconscious. The unconscious is where repressed memories & feelings are kept that often (but not always) expressed through dreams.
"The unconscious consists of things that are outside of conscious awareness, including many memories, thoughts, and urges of which we are not aware. Much of what is stored in the unconscious is thought to be unpleasant or conflicting..." (see source below)*
Unfortunately, I think a lot of us that aren't able to keep busy during quarantine may experience unpleasant nightmares that bring forward some potential repressed memories, which can be difficult to deal with on your own. Not everyone has the means to access
mental health services, especially now, so let's try to help each other out during this hard time. A lot of us aren't given the tools to know how to deal with trauma, heavy thoughts & emotions, but if you have the capacity to extend a helping hand to someone you know may be
struggling, do it. If you have the access to mental health services and are in need of them, please seek them. You're not alone in what you're going through and you do NOT need to suffer in silence. I am here & always willing to help anyone in need, my DM is open 💜
