The focal point of the classroom is the teacher, not the student. Teacher stands front and center, desks are aligned and face her, visual aids are behind her, and she speaks more than 50% of the time (probably closer to 85% of the time). Same is true in zoom classes.
Students should be the center of attention. They should talk through the material, using and building their vocabulary. They should have time to think out loud and alone. Their should be a balance between independent and group work, and less time dedicated to direct instruction.
