Gov. Whitmer, during her 3 p.m. update.

We're facing another shortage: medications that support people on ventilators.
FDA's food and nutrition services approved Michigan's plan for additional benefits for families with kids who get free/reduced lunch in schools. Allows state to provide SNAP benefits to cover cost of school meals that would have been provided during the school day, she said.
Deaths in Michigan rose above 1,000 today.

Federal model shows our cases would peak this week. But it doesn't represent the reality of # of cases, deaths, people in critical care, Whitmer said.

Social distancing, PPE availability will determine how long this lasts, she said.
Whitmer, describing expansion of "stay home" order: now is the time to intensify our efforts because they are working.

That means we'll be home until April 30. (Unless you are essential and have to work outside the home.)
Michiganders should limit number of household members running errands. Fewer people out, the better.
Don't expect this to be over April 30, Whitmer said. It will take time to safely, responsibly reopen the economy.
Dr. Joneigh Khaldun takes the microphone. We are seeing very early data showing the growth rate may be slowing, but, again, with limited testing it's hard to know what's happening.
We still need medical professionals to staff hospitals, alternate care sites that are handling surge of patients. Particularly RN's and respiratory therapists, Khaldun said. To volunteer: http://Michigan.gov/fightcovid19
Michigan is reporting more data on ventilator use, discharges, regional equipment availability, etc. Linked below. Lansing-area is Region 1, with 9 total counties.
