I wish to offer a different perspective
You have someone earning 3.5k pm (P1)& another earning 7k pm (P2)
Both can live below those means
Maybe P1 lives off 3.1k to save 400
P2 lives off 6.2k to save 800
P1 EF is 18.6k
P2 EF is 37.2k
It will take both 46.5 months to save that https://twitter.com/PhumiSkosana/status/1248247376688459776
It is possible for P2 to live off 3.1k if it's possible for P1 to live off the same, but the fact is that circumstances are not the same & the demands of the jobs that pay those salaries are not the same
May be that P1 is a live-in domestic while P2 is IT support & is far from
His place of work, because he cannot live at the office to remove travel costs
If you earn 3.5k you must learn to live within or below those means, the same as anyone earning any amount
Your living expenses can include 400 savings & you're still living within your means
It would be unrealistic for both to expect to save 3k pm but may be realistic to save 400/800 pm
Even the person earning 30k needs 46.5 months to build EF if saving 11% of their salary, the same percentage that P1 & P2 are saving, so their savings rate is the same
Just a thought
If people wait to "earn more money" in order to save, they might never do cause inflation happens
Having other sources of income can help increase the savings rate for someone who saves but not for someone who doesn't or is waiting to "earn more than"
There's always more to earn
