seeing so many friends exhausted by the ever elusive pursuit of being more productive. we know by now that prioritizing what matters most helps reduce the fomo. so our output limits are addressed.
maybe the exhaustion continues because we don't address limits on input.
let's split input/labor parameters similar to splitting safety - emotional, physical and intellectual - to diagnose the issue. i've noticed in my self and in friends that our exhaustion is coming from not refueling our capacity for emotional labor
my hypothesis is that this is coming from a mix of dearth of RH nourishing activities and corresponding overload of LH nourishing activities. to tackle the latter, i've retired from using trello and notion and the triggers i've been using there for productivity
i'm aware this is kinda extreme. overcompensating on the other end of the extreme seems to teach me how to engage with either extremes in a more healthy way. hence this seems like the right way forward. i've also quit engaging with this subject in reading and conversation
for the former, i'm 1) listening to more instrumental music, 2) switching up how i write to have more imagery and characterization to engage imagination and empathy, 3) imagining that meaning and narrative structure didn't exist while interfacing with the thoughts that arise,
4) pushing the bounds of suspension of disbelief when watching movies/shows by empathizing actively with all the characters on screen, putting aside distinctions of good/bad/sensible/insensible that seem to be getting in my way of empathizing with another person
the underlying theme i think we can benefit from addressing that everything may be an abstract symbol. nothing has inherent implications. we create them.
then it feels silly to think we can all interface with these symbols to our best ability by relying mainly on tangible methods that are normalized to work for a big set of users. we should investigate the long tail using our imagination to find what works for us
it needn't work on anybody else or require proof for why it's rational and not woo - for it to be addressed as something that works for you. think about it -
all that drives us forward is the meaning boundaries we put around a subject. this is how we do.
all that holds us back is the meaning boundaries we put around a subject. this is how we get out of our own way on the way to doing.
i'm expecting this exercise will help with feeling first and thinking later. and getting better at flexing that muscle should nourish RH.

curious to hear thoughts, questions and concerns around what i'm talking about here. feel free to DM if this space doesn't work.
