The general public clapping NHS staff is great. It comes from a beautiful place & I’m sure it’s appreciated. But anyone in a position of power, with the ability to make their jobs easier & more financially rewarding & less fatal - if they just clap and do fuck all, they’re cunts.
All this talk about NHS staff being ‘angels’ & ‘superhuman’ I dunno if it’s counterproductive. They’re not superhuman - they’re very human. They don’t just want that warm fuzzy feeling inside. Give them proper PPE, test them, give them a big payrise, cancel their student debt.
Celebrating NHS workers with hyperbole and nothing more isn’t fair. It becomes a fetishisation. In the same way the US have always fetishised their ‘troops’. Calling them being heroes but not treating them with basic human decency. Applause don’t pay the bills or stop infection.
