Framed in context of advanced lifter as there are a lot of answers when dealing with novices:
A true 1RM is ramped up to over time: 10-12 weeks and then cycle peaks and lift is tested.
a *true* 1RM will tax the body VERY hard. I tested this very thing in January. https://twitter.com/nntaleb/status/1248287269846466560

I pulled this on 1 Jan 2020. *true* 1RM at the time. Instead of a deload I kept intensity high — BW the same — sleep recovery consistent. There are A LOT of variables but I wanted to pull 500 again without waiting 12 weeks.
This is one week later on 8 Jan. Glued to floor. A true 1RM for advanced lifter is built up to over months - and should be tested no more than 2x/year. This is my opinion based of my training experience and my coaching experience.
