hatters quarantine book recs (for if you have specifically my taste in books):
1: 'Skulduggery Pleasant', by Derek Landy
my favourite book series since i was 11. if you like magic, adventure, comedy, mystery, and women with swords, this series is perfect for you
2: 'The Checquy Files', by Daniel O'Malley

this series is like if the x-men were secretly MI5 but with even cooler powers and also had 16 layers of conspiracy going on. also, the protagonist is awesome (even if she does pronounce her own name wrong)
3: The 'A Darker Shade of Magic' trilogy, by V.E. Schwab

come for the amazing cover design, stay for 1. brilliant characters 2. beautiful writing 3. an innovative and interesting magic system

this was the series that made me cry for fully half an hour the other day 10/10
4: The 'Six of Crows' duology, by Leigh Bardugo

i literally cannot praise this book enough. steampunk, heists, gay flirting followed immediately by gay panic, fight scenes, found family, this book has it all

if you like dusk city outlaws you will adore this book
5: The 'Rivers of London' series, by Ben Aaronovitch

fantasy and crime combined, with a diverse cast of characters and it's all set in the world's greatest city

look simon pegg and nick frost love this series that should be enough to convince you
6: The 'Chaos Walking' trilogy, by Patrick Ness

dystopian society? check. aliens? check. unique writing style? check. will make you laugh and cry in rapid succession??? check and check
7: 'The Toy Makers', by Robert Dinsdale

if you liked 'The Night Circus' or 'Caraval', you'll love this book. magical realism set in the early 20th century that will 100% bring you to tears and make your heart hurt
8: 'The Book Thief', by Markus Zusak

look if you haven't read this book already i don't know what to tell you. it's a masterpiece. go read it
9: The 'John Dies at the End' series, by David Wong

idk why i only have the third book in this series currently with me BUT this book is like if 'Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy' had a baby with the works of H.P.Lovecraft
10: Literally any book by Neil Gaiman

i mean, he's neil gaiman. but especially read good omens, even if you've seen the show. it's 6000 years of slow burn romance combined with hilarity and maggots. what's not to love??
the end!! if you read any of these please scream at me about them. also just for fun here's a pile of books i plan on finishing while in quarantine
looking at this thread i have realised that if a book has magic, humour, the gays™️, and will make me cry, im basically guaranteed to love it
