Some personal thoughts on the path forward with #COVID19 recovery. Please follow if interested. 1/10
We’re not out of the woods yet with the first wave of the #COVID19 pandemic, so maintaining #socialdistancing continues to be critical. #stayhomestaysafe 2/10 https://covid19.healthdata.org/united-states-of-america">https://covid19.healthdata.org/united-st...
At the same time, we must accelerate planning at the state and national level for how best to reopen the economy so we can begin to recover. But how? And how do we ensure it’s done safely? 3/10 https://www.usnews.com/news/economy/articles/2020-04-09/more-than-16-million-americans-filed-for-unemployment-the-past-three-weeks">https://www.usnews.com/news/econ...
Any reopening needs to be completed in a phased, step-by-step process. Start small, and gradually build towards larger gatherings. We unfortunately cannot just “flip the switch” and immediately return to life as normal. 4/10 https://thehill.com/policy/finance/491982-fed-chair-warns-against-false-start-as-trump-eyes-may-reopening-of-economy">https://thehill.com/policy/fi...
Massive, widespread, and frequent testing with rapid results will need to act as the foundation to reopening. Without it, we run the risk of a second wave that forces us to shut down again. 5/10 https://www.businessinsider.com/coronavirus-carriers-transmit-without-symptoms-what-to-know-2020-4">https://www.businessinsider.com/coronavir...
It may not be popular, but we might want to consider issuing some type of “card” or “certificate” for those who have been tested and are disease free as a means of expediting return to work, air travel, etc. Again, frequent testing critical. 6/10 https://www.technologyreview.com/2020/04/08/998785/stop-covid-or-save-the-economy-we-can-do-both/">https://www.technologyreview.com/2020/04/0...
The scale of testing will need to be combined with robust surveillance, rapid response and contact tracing, and isolation measures to quickly contain flare ups as new cases are identified. 7/10 https://www.who.int/emergencies/diseases/novel-coronavirus-2019/technical-guidance/surveillance-and-case-definitions">https://www.who.int/emergenci...
Recovery must prioritize support for those who are most vulnerable, both here and around the world. 8/10 https://www.devex.com/news/socio-economic-challenges-must-be-addressed-in-covid-19-response-undp-chief-says-96954">https://www.devex.com/news/soci...

I’ve been inspired by how my university, @UW and @IHME_UW, and the local #Seattle community has responded to support those most impacted. I hope those who have capacity to give can do so to well-positioned entities within their own communities. 9/10 https://www.washington.edu/together/ ">https://www.washington.edu/together/...
And finally, taking a holistic approach to a population’s health and well-being has never been more important. I hope others are inspired to begin taking on #PopulationHealth in a more interdisciplinary, collaborative way. @UW_PHI End/ https://www.washington.edu/populationhealth/">https://www.washington.edu/populatio...
