What to do during Ramadhan, a thread

1. Goals
When setting a goal, make sure it has islamic values to it and most important thing: do NOT overburden yourself! Setting to many goals will cause you to lose motivation. Set one goal or two. For example: memorising a certain surah from the Qur’aan, waking up for fajr etc

2. Food
Quality over quantity! Choose foods which will give you a feeling of being full, rather than stuffing your stomach until you can’t anymore. Try whole grains, avocado, dates (uneven numbers is sunnah!), more fruits, salad etc.

3. Qur’aan
Make the Qur’aan your priority. I suggest you start now with the smaller suwar, so you’ll build up a routine when entering Ramadhan. You could also start by reading one page per day. Build that up until one page after and before every salah.

4. Charity
For my girls, on days you’re unable to fast, choose a masjid you’d like to give sadaqah to, like your local masjid.
Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, “Protect yourself from hell-fire even by giving a piece of date as charity.” (Al-Bukhari and Muslim)

“Those who spend their wealth in Allah’s cause are like grains of corn which produce seven ears, each bearing a hundred grains.”

5. Adhkaar
Keep your tongue moist during the day and the night by remembering the One who gave you the ability to speak. Learn your morning and evening adhkaar.

6. Dua
Write down what you’ve always wanted. What you think/know you’ll need for any kind of benefit. Write them down on a piece of paper and hang them up where you can see them. Read it every day whether it be voluntary or during sujood.

'Aishah (RA) asked:
"O Messenger of Allah! If I realize Lailat-ul-Qadr, what should I supplicate in it?"
He (ď·ş) replied, "You should supplicate: Allahumma innaka 'afuwwun, tuhibbul-'afwa, fa'fu 'anni (O Allah, You are Most Forgiving, and You love forgiveness; so forgive me)."

7. Knowledge
Try to gain as much knowledge as you can, at your own pace.
Start with the foundation of islaam, at-tawheed! Study it and inhert it. And share what you learned for that’s sadaqah jariya. Utilize your knowledge for your akhlaaq.

8. Sin
Try to leave your sins right now so that it won’t be a burden during ramadhan and disturb you from achieving your goals. Make sincere dua to Allah to grant you strength to leave those sins that won’t leave your heart. Make sure to get rid of things that trigger you to sin.

Do not concern yourself with gossip, backbiting, foul talk etc. Understand why these sins make your heart hard and push you away from the path of Allah. Such as music.
9. Salah
Make salah your priority. Start with the fardh prayers and once you managed that, try to add the sunnah prayers to it.
Make the intention to wake up for tahajjud.

Narrated Abu Huraira:
