More recently America has shattered its own democratic credibility by electing an authoritarian buffoon, the capstone of a long history of antidemocratic racism. Its trustworthiness as an global steward is frayed as it has abandoned allies and international agreements. 2/3
There may be something to the idea of a pax imperium, where hegemony produces peace. But it involves domination and exploitation of weaker parties. This is the opposite of ethical cosmopolitanism. Globalism means *multilateral* institutions and relationships, not hegemony. 3/3
