people calling robert e lee a slave owning racist..okay he was, but literally even people in the north were racist? and most people in the south had slaves? it was the social norm of their time, you can't hate people for things they believed in because it was normal at the time??

otherwise we would hate everyone who thought the world was flat? like, they didn't fucking know any better and that's what they were told. it's just how things were. Lee sided with his state which happened to secede, that's a completely honorable thing to do

that's what the constitution was literally written for, so states had the power to leave if they deemed the US gov was out of line. Don't demonize one man because he fought for what he thought was right and was just a subject of his times. Be thankful they didn't win and move on
