The dumbest thing out of COVID-19 is the idiotic reporting on Zoom. Just like any tool, it's as safe as you configure it. I am perfectly safe using Zoom. Just make sure your settings are right.
Fact is there is no such thing as perfect software. But the complaints about Zoom are really starting to make my eyes roll to the back of my head. I say this as a person who deals with cybersecurity.
I'm as paranoid as the next cybersecurity guy. But there are much worse things to worry about right now. Like the scam artist trying to scare people over Zoom through marketing email campaigns.
Here is a decent write-up on the issues. It's not perfect but, for the most cases, there are not huge deal breakers. There are plenty of things I don't like and hope they change, but there is nothing that scares me away from using it. https://www.tomsguide.com/news/zoom-security-privacy-woes
The real problem with cyber security is that if everyone really knew how buggy and potentially unsafe their devices are, they would go back to using an abacus. Or you wear a tinfoil cap and worry about 5G giving you COVID-19.
