I am so lucky to be surrounded by men who love and support me and who I love in return, but still seeing comments of men online, hearing men who are clearly privileged underestimate/diminish women’s struggles, makes me so angry and does make me “hate men”.
What I’m trying to say is hating men is not a personal issue women have with man (singular), it’s a direct response to an oppressive system in which they aren’t taken seriously by men. Men acting attacked when women say “I hate men” is an extension of purposeful misunderstanding
and a form of victim blaming, shaming women for their emotional response to the abuse they’ve received from men, specifically because those men are using male privilege. If I hadn’t been surrounded by men who see their privilege and are strong supporters of women’s rights,
I’m sure I would be profoundly more angry, but a lot of women aren’t that lucky and “I hate men” serves as a vent for their frustrations. Every women can empathize with those words. And “not all men” people know exactly what they are doing.
