For my first @MegaConstrux #MEGAathome post, I’ve decided to do a thread discussing their underrated and sadly archived #Destiny line.
My plan is to cover what the line as a whole did well, what it did not, and how it can be even better should it someday return.
More below.
When Mega announced that they would be adapting their second @Bungie franchise into toy form, I was ecstatic. They had already done an excellent job with the Halo IP, and I didn’t doubt their design team would perform just as well with Destiny.
They did, for the most part.
To begin with my first positive, the sets themselves had a great level of quality. Each build from the Arcadia to the Spider Walker (my personal favorite) were very fun to construct and play with. The sets also had a great amount of detail, and were easily worth the price.
But this does bring me to my first, and largest negative. Upon release there were far, far too many Sparrow sets. While the array of choices were nice, most were little more than recolored clones. Because of this, you only needed to buy one to get the full experience.
For my next positive, it goes without saying that Mega’s articulated figures are fantastic, their Destiny counterparts no exception. From the excellent detailing to the (mostly) great paint work, all of them pop to life with expressive charm.
The wide array of villain figures were standouts, each faction represented fairly well. Unfortunately they were limited in terms of enemy diversity, with both the Fallen and Hive only receiving a single figure type. The Cabal had the best range, and I wish they were the standard.
As implied earlier, I did also have plenty of issues with paint quality, more frequently than any other Mega line. This was mostly present on the Captains, their eyes often misplaced. Minor part errors also were common.
Thankfully Mega’s phenomenal customer support team are incredibly helpful, and they deserve significant praise. A faulty part is not a problem when they are always willing to make it right.

Seriously, give them my thanks. It's the least they deserve after being great for years.
It’s not well known that the #Destiny line is no longer in development. Despite the clear sign of no new sets being released, the only confirmation I could find was a single comment on a forum thread back in December. I myself didn’t even discover it until April 1st, jokes aside.
Even with the line’s return uncertain, I still want to give my input on how it could improve if given a second chance.
The biggest change I would love to see is the addition of battlepacks. Destiny is a power fantasy, and many heroes and villains are needed to capture that. Packs dedicated to factions is perfect for the IP, and would significantly help the line’s figure issues.
I do think the line’s Guardian armor packs were a great idea. Well I don’t know how they sold, the appeal of designing your own Guardian translates incredibly well into a building system. Promotional emblem codes would also help market the toys through the game they represent.
I could go on with my thoughts, but this thread has gone on a little too long. For my closing statement, I want to sincerely thank the @MegaConstrux build team. You guys did a solid job with Destiny’s initial run. Even if it will never return, I still really enjoyed what we got!
