I would like to publicly voice my displeasure with Campus Living Villages ( @clv_uk), and how they have handled payment for student accommodation in the wake of the COVID-19 outbreak. As a student at Bournemouth University ( @bournemouthuni), myself and many other students...
...are being made to pay our next rent instalment, despite moving out of our accommodation and not being allowed to return. I am expected to pay £1459.15 for a tenancy that it is now physically impossible for me to fulfil. I am not using any of the facilities that I am being...
...charged for, but payment is still being asked of me. I am well aware that said payment is outlined in my tenancy agreement, but these circumstances are unprecedented, representing a once in a century pandemic. Despite my halls (Cranborne House) having to pay, Purbeck House...
...owned and operated by @Unite_Student and located in the same student village as mine, are not asking their tenants to pay their final instalment and have offered to cancel it. The expectation of the people in my halls is unfair and, while legal, lacks a level of moral...
...consideration. On top of this, there are students who are situated in other accommodations owned by CLV who are NOT having to pay their rent, meaning specific students in specific halls are being discriminated against for reasons that are not transparent.
If you are considering attending Bournemouth University for your degree, DO NOT rent with Campus Living Villages, as the lack of compassion and level of greed displayed here has put many vulnerable students at risk. Many of us are unable to work in the current climate...
...and in my case, my student loan doesn't even cover my rental costs, let alone my living costs. The undue stress and pressure this situation has put students under is exponential, the fact that CLV could be so callous as to demand they pay rent for a building they are...
...unable to live in upsets me to no end. I am making a plea to CLV to reconsider their position and consider the damage it has caused to the many students they have under their care in these trying times. It is immoral and unjust.
If you are a student and this relates to you, please like and RT to boost visibility and let CLV know that this decision will not be taken lightly by those living with them and those considering to live with them. We have to take a stand.
@TheTab @Bournemouthecho I am a journalism student and am happy to provide more clarity on this situation.
