Here is the problem with policy debates, even within conservative circles. Weeks ago some of us tried to tell people that growth rates of covid19 infections were slowing down, that this was not exponential growth.
Of course, we were told millions will die, we don’t understand science, we just want to kill grandma, and we should just go fuck off. After all, one life is important, so why would we even bring it up.
Then when you try to point out the massive economic and mental health costs of shutting down everything, you’re an asshole for even bringing it up. @davidafrench compares you to Logan’s Run, so apparently we just want to actively kill people.
Then, it becomes painfully obvious to everyone that this is not the disaster that was advertised. People ranging from @neontaster to @ewerickson try to convince people that the models are adjusting, ergo they’re good models.
Nevermind that they keep falling out of their confidence intervals every few days. “It must be because of distancing” they say, but that was already in the model. Now @scottadamssays tells us they’re not supposed to be accurate. WTF?
The models were fucking trash and some of us knew it weeks ago. So, here we sit, with a vast majority of hospitals being not remotely close to capacity, massive unemployment, possible spikes in domestic violence and suicide, people arrested for insane reasons, and whatever else.
Anyway, thank you @jessekellydc @mattwalshblog @seanmdav @alexberenson @davereaboi and others for putting your ass on the line during this whole thing. Some people have been great.
