#AutismAcceptanceMonth #AutismAcceptance As a person with both autism and cPTSD, I think it's worth discussing that typically 70% of people on the spectrum have a comorbid psychiatric disorder, and there is a lot of interplay in internal/external factors. A big reason I bring -
this up is b/c clinical anxiety and depression are some of the bigger players in autistic people because of society not being accommodating to us, especially in the form of bullying, ostracizing, abuse, etc. A part of the PTSD-induced anxiety I experience is because my mother -
actively tried to suppress my autistic traits by punishing me for not making "correct" facial expressions, avoiding eye contact, and not sitting "correctly" constantly. When people tell me "you don't LOOK autistic though!" (this statement is so bad in general) I get -
uncomfortable thinking about how the abuse made me suppress these traits, and how it came with massive anxiety that haunts me today. All in all, We should work to make the world more accepting for others who struggle similarly and recognize the comorbidity of autism w/ other MI.
