So, this is a real question. Do the people who talk about the 'Blitz spirit', 'British resilience' , 'Getting on with it' etc...do they genuinely think that other peoples/lands/cultures don't have means of coping, reserves of courage, stoicism, resilience etc? That it's unique?

And if it's unique, it's unique because of what? Because of not having been invaded, occupied, or colonized in a thousand years? Or is it the chalk in the water?

So one of the recurrent responses to this thread can be boiled down to 'When Brits say they are special and unique in this department, they are not saying other people aren't special and unique in this department.'
