Among Covid news this was largely missed so: thread. A week ago a Pakistan court overturned East Londoner Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh’s death sentence for the 2002 murder of WSJ journalist, Daniel Pearl.

LSE student Sheikh joined the Jihad in Bosnia in the 90s after extremists recruited on uni campuses. He travelled on an aid convoy, exactly the type of aid convoys that would funnel cash & fighters to the Syrian Jihad 20 years later.
The @ChtyCommission just found the ‘failings’ of one of those Syria aid convoys contributed to the murder of aid worker Alan Henning at the hands of another Londoner, Jihadi John. Sheikh kidnapped Daniel Pearl in 2002. Pearl was investigating Richard Reid, the ‘shoe bomber’ who had just tried to blow a passenger plane out of the sky. 9/11 architect Khaled Sheikh Mohammed confessed to decapitating the ‘American Jew’ with his ‘blessed right hand’
Now, Sheikh’s name resurfaces nearly 3 decades after he first became active, with potentially big implications for the UK, US & Pakistan. So here’s a safe bet: the ripples from those now in our prisons & the 900 who joined Isis will he making waves for many years to come
1 more example of the long terrorist hangover: in 1995 Libyan extremists settled in Manchester, including al-Qaeda’s Anas al-Liby - implicated in 98 US embassy bombings. He was a connection of the Abedi family. 2 decades later Salman & Hashem Abedi would attack Manchester Arena.
