UNITE HERE International President D. Taylor, during a virtual press conference with reporters, says the casino industry has stepped up during prior crises (9/11, hurricanes.) But he said that's not happening, broadly, now.

"Why haven't they overall stepped up?" Taylor says.
He notes Wynn Resorts as one example of a company that is paying their employees during this time. But he says the union does not understand the behavior of the industry as a whole. He says it's not about one single company.
However, he notes the wealth of the casino companies. MGM has almost $4 billion on hand, Caesars has over $2 billion, Taylor says.

"So the question of money is not the issue," he says.
Taylor says that because gaming companies have privileged licenses, the states should insist that they pay people through the shutdown.

"And frankly, the conscience of these casinos should do the same thing," he says.
Geoconda Argüello-Kline, @Culinary226's secretary-treasurer, says workers "make these companies very profitable."

"We're talking about billions of dollars in profit. Billions of dollars in cash. And they don't see the workers right now," she says.
Argüello-Kline says casino companies have "practically left these families alone."

"We're asking them to take care of their responsibility like the Wynn and Encore and help their workers through this crisis," she says.
Taylor says they're asking casino companies to comply with this "as of a few weeks ago."

"They should pay throughout the closures," he says.
