In keeping with trying to boost others during this time, I wanted to take a moment to highlight some of the best writers/scripts that I’ve read over the past few months. Below are the writers I think you NEED to be paying attention to:
I’ll start with the obvious: @davidwappel and his spec #TheLastFarm I’ve read this script numerous times, and it gets better with every read. Subtle exploration of neutrality, and a character that, to this day, remains one of my all time favorites I’ve EVER read.
If you love grounded sci-fi, and prose that reads like beautiful poetry with an incredibly emotional character arc to match, then you need to drop what you’re doing and read this script. David is a walking encyclopedia, and a master of the craft. He will be big time one day.

Speaking of Sci-fi, when I was reading for eclectic, I read a script that I still think about to this day. And while I don’t know that I can speak openly about it, I will say that if you get a chance to read a @BenamorDan script, you will come away in tears.
His script wrecked me. Easily the best script I read while working for eclectic, and the fact that this scriot isn’t yet produced is a crime. I will be the first person in line to see this movie if/when it gets made. Dan is big time. Y’all need to pay attention

Next up is a personal favorite of mine. The Domovoi by @JLisaJay is so much god damn fun, while simultaneously being an emotional wrecking ball. The tactful was that she approaches tough subject matter with is a master stroke of brilliance. Wanna write horror?
Then You must put Lisa at the top of your reading list. A no nonsense student of the craft, Lisa is a writer on the verge who is only one thumbs up away from making a lot of people a lot of money, and bringing a horror masterpiece into a theater near you.
Then there is the incomparable @edithdrod whose script #SouthSideGirls resonated with me in ways that I never expected a coming of age story about a Latina teenager to resonate with me. All I have to say is wow. You want emotion? Then you need to read this script.
And to boot, Edith is also a director! If you have the time, I suggest you reach out to her and ask if you could watch her directorial debut #Pride a beautiful short film that speaks for itself. So much talent here, and she’s JUST getting started.
This next script made me bawl my eyes out in public. I have thought about this script literally every day since I read it. #AboveTheFold by @najarayne is a masterpiece. Plain and simple. This script literally made me a better person.
It’s timely, thoughtful, and showcases the talent of a writer in full command of their craft. Naja is a brilliant mind who deserves your attention. Please, if you have a few hours, reach out and ask to read what I think is one of the best pilots I’ve ever read.
Then there is @KetchupSnowman whose pilot #BadWitches was on the blood list. I read this script before I moved to LA and omg this script is MFing genius. Amber is big time and if you don’t already know about her then you need to crawl out from whatever rock you live under.
Then there is @orion_movie a Sci-Fi epic that follows an intriguing cast of characters so fleshed out, it feels like this script was written by a veteran screenwriter. I love Sci-Fi, and this script made me fall in love with the genre in all new ways. READ THIS SCRIPT
Last but 100% not least is everything I’ve read from @ScriptsByJames
Look, I know I sing his praises a lot but there are a ton of reasons why. His scripts exude professionalism. All of them. His concepts and characters are fresh. Nobody balances an ensemble cast like James.

I was shocked when I first read mall kids, then have remained unsurprised by his many successes since then. Campus cops, Pros & Cons... all amazing scripts. This man is going to be a showrunner. This man is going to dominate TV one day. Seriously. Watch TF out.

I know I am missing some people. But these are the writers/scripts that have stuck with me ever since reading. Please, if you’re struggling, reach out to these writers and read their work. Not only is it worth your time, but if you’re trying to learn, these are the best teachers!
Feel free to keep this going. If you’ve read a script you can’t stop thinking about, give it and the writer a shout out here!
