Many have told me recently that I’m too negative when it comes to Virginia Tech recruiting. So here’s a thread that tries to take things from a positive perspective... #Hokies
First, Tech’s class currently sits at No. 20 in the 247Composite. #Hokies already have two four-star commits (Dematrius Davis and Latrell Neville), which is more than Tech had in the 2020 class.
There’s potential to boost that rating too. #Hokies are still in on several top prospects, some from Virginia and some outside the state. For instance, Tech has an official visit secured with CA prospect Anthony Beavers, a four-star recruit.
The #Hokies also have a chance to land multiple top-10 prospects in the Commonwealth. Here are three four-star prospects that Tech could land in this cycle.
Even landing just half of these targets would likely land the #Hokies inside the top-25 for the 2021 cycle, an often-stated goal for those outside the program. It would represent a massive improvement from the 2020 cycle.
So yes, Virginia Tech’s 2021 class has a chance to be quite good. The #Hokies already have a couple of good prospects in line and more could be on the way.
However, let’s be honest about recent events. While Tech has rarely succeeded in signing five-star talent, even in Virginia, the job of a head coach isn’t just to keep the status quo. The goal is to improve, both on and off the field. #Hokies
Recruiting is a part of the program that has not improved over the last four years. While there’s a chance for improvement this cycle, we need to wait and see before we declare success or failure. It’s okay to demand improvement, even if it’s small. #Hokies
Let’s see how this pans out. #Hokies have a chance at a great cycle here, but I think it’s fair to postpone excitement while we wait for more results. I hope this thread serves as an honest take on things and doesn’t generate more division.
