Just got an email from a minor league baseball team encouraging me to 'celebrate opening night at home' and realized that the thing that rubs me wrong about a lot of digital engagement right now is pretending it's normal & we're all fine & we just have to do things from home!
Can I just have space to be sad and mad and scared or do I have to engage with every brand and organization I have ever come in contact with, but now from home?
home is where i try to interact with fewer brands and organizations
I absolutely understand the anxiety that brands/orgs will lose customers/audiences during this, but maybe it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world if we all had space to just focus on what is unfolding and then come back to brands/orgs later.
I also think -- as more data becomes available about who is being most impacted by COVID -- that there are a lot of (probably correct) assumptions being made about who is in your audience if your main concern right now is, "but people are bored and we can capitalize on that!"
