1) I want to go over this position as it's important to discuss seeing all the censorship happening on social media platforms.

"They" in this case is referring to @YouTube

The public utility argument applies to only social media platforms. Not simply any company.

Cont'd. https://twitter.com/Carter_Zon/status/1248073264020193281
2) Social media companies created public platforms open to anyone to use. There is no paywall to use Youtube, Twitter, etc.

This created a "digital public square" that becomes the reflection of our physical world. We now use these public forums to communicate.

Cont'd.
3) Banning, blocking, and demonetizing is the equivalent of preventing someone from sharing ideas in a public square.

The only difference is this happens in a digital fashion now.

The Constitution still applies here. Private company status doesn't override the law.

Cont'd.
4) There must be changes to the law to hold these companies accountable for violating our rights as US citizens.

A US-based company blocking the communication of a US citizen user is a violation of the first amendment.

Those being blocked aren't company employees.

Cont'd.
5) Private companies can have control over their employees, but not private citizens.

There has to be accountability here because millions of people use these platforms to communicate and the companies must be held to the standard of the law.

Cont'd.
6) No one is above the law and we must hold these companies, run by HUMANS, accountable to the rule of law.

Private company status does not get a pass to violate our constitutional rights. They made the decision to create public forums and need to be treated as such.
