A short thread on the #Triduum and #HolyThursday, #GoodFriday, #LastSupper, #HolySaturday and #Easter #Easter2020

Today, #HolyThursday marks the day when #Jesus celebrated the #Passover with the #Apostles in the #UpperRoom and transformed it
2. #Jesus performed the washing of the Apostles feet. He showed that humility and charity to others were what He desired, and commanded us to follow His example.

But it also showed something greater. It foreshadowed the sacrament of #Confession.
3. Note what #Jesus says in John 13, in response to Peter asking the Lord to wash his entire body in addition to his feet.

"One who has bathed does not need to wash, except for the feet, but is entirely clean"

Now some will try to say this means we can lose salvation...
4. But look at the preceding verses when Peter objects because he doesn't want Christ to lower Himself before Peter

"You will never wash my feet" - Peter

"Unless I wash you, you have no share with Me" - Jesus

After baptism, we MUST go to Christ in Confession to clean our feet
5. Then look a few verses down. Jesus says:

"You also ought to wash one another's feet"

Later Jesus gives the Apostles authority to forgive sins. They hold this authority so they can wash each other's feet and our feet as well.
6. Everyone should take time to listen to Scott Hahn's talk about the 4th Cup. He talks about what is MISSING at the #LastSupper. Something we in the 21st century wouldn't know was missing or even recognize was lacking something

"It is finished" - Jesus

What is the "it"?
7. The #Triduum, which means "three days" is ONE long liturgy. It's not 3 separate liturgies on #HolyThursday, #GoodFriday and #EasterVigil #Easter

They are all ONE continuous liturgy.

That's because the #LastSupper and #Calvary are the SAME EVENT.
8. The #LastSupper is finalized and concluded on #Calvary with the #Cross.

This is why Jesus said He would not drink the fruit of the vine again until He was in His kingdom. And yet, He DRANK WINE on the Cross!?!?

Why would He do that?!?!?
9. The reason He drank wine on the #Cross is because He was FINISHING the #LastSupper. Jesus specifically did NOT drink the 4th Cup of #Passover there in the Upper Room.

He stopped the Passover of the Old Covenant, that He was transforming into the New Covenant
10. He immediately went out to the Mount of Olives. He explicitly did NOT drink the 4th Cup that ends the #Passover , because He wasn't done transforming it.

We REALLY need to understand what Jesus means by instituting a New Covenant.
11. To be a part of Covenant, you MUST participate in the meal. You literally HAD to consume the lamb during the #Passover , or you were NOT part of the Mosaic Covenant with God

If you don't literally EAT the Body of the Paschal Lamb (Jesus), you are NOT part of the New Covenant
12. Note as well, that Judas receives the Eucharist, receives the Body of Christ, but since he's not clean as discussed above, he is eating judgment and damnation upon himself
13. On #GoodFriday, when Jesus suffers as the #LambOfGod, take it seriously, and appreciate this eternal and infinite gift given to you.

You must receive this gift with obedience, with reverence, and with your soul clean thru baptism or confession.

Do NOT receive unworthily
14. Take time #HolyThursday, #GoodFriday & #HolySaturday to be quiet, listen to #Christ, let Him wash your feet in confession if you're able.

Spend time on Saturday for silence. Jesus rested on the 7th day after His #Crucifixion, just as He rested on the 7th day of creation
