It was the day of the feast with bread that has no yeast in it. The sheep had to be killed for the Passover Feast, so Jesus sent Peter and John, saying to them, `Go and get the Passover Feast ready for us to eat.' #HolyThursday
He said, `When you go into the city, a man carrying a pot of water will meet you. Follow him into the house where he goes.
Tell the master of the house, "The Teacher says, `Where is the room where I can eat the Passover Feast with my disciples?'
He will show you a large room upstairs. It will be all fixed up. Make it ready there.' So they went and found everything just the way Jesus had said. Then they made the Passover food ready.
When evening had come, he came and was reclining at the table with the twelve disciples. He said to them,"I have earnestly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer,
for I tell you, I will no longer by any means eat of it until it is fulfilled in the Kingdom of God."
Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he came forth from God, and was going to God, arose from supper, and laid aside his outer garments. He took a towel, and wrapped it around his waist.
Then he poured water into the basin, and began to wash the disciples' feet, and to wipe them with the towel that was wrapped around him. Then he came to Simon Peter. He said to him, "Lord, do you wash my feet?"
Jesus answered "You don't know what I am doing now, but you will understand later." Peter said , "You will never wash my feet!" Jesus answered him, "If I don't wash you, you have no part with me." Simon Peter said to him, "Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head!"
As they were eating, Jesus took bread, gave thanks for it, and broke it. He gave to the disciples, and said, "Take, eat; this is my body which is broken and given for you. Do this in memory of me."
He took the cup, gave thanks, and gave to them, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you. All of you drink it, for this is my blood of the new covenant, which is poured out for many for the remission of sins.
As often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes. But I tell you that I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on, until that day when I drink it anew with you in my Father's Kingdom."
Now as they were eating, Jesus was troubled in spirit, (and said,) "Most certainly I tell you that one of you who eats with me will betray me." Behold, the hand of him who betrays me is with me on the table.
The Son of Man indeed goes, even as it is written of him, but woe to that man through whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would be better for that man if he had not been born."
The disciples looked at one another, perplexed about whom he spoke.
They began to question among themselves, which of them it was who would do this thing.
One of his disciples, whom Jesus loved, was at the table, leaning against Jesus' breast. Simon Peter therefore beckoned to him, and said to him, "Tell us who it is of whom he speaks." He, leaning back, as he was, on Jesus' breast, asked him, "Lord, who is it?"
Each began to ask him, "It isn't me, is it, Lord? Surely not I?" Jesus answered, "He who dipped his hand with me in the dish, the same will betray me. It is he to whom I will give this piece of bread when I have dipped it."
So when he had dipped the piece of bread, he gave it to Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot. Judas, who betrayed him, answered, "It isn't me, is it, Rabbi?" He said to him, "You said it."
After the piece of bread, then Satan entered into him.
Then Jesus said to him, "What you do, do quickly."
Therefore, having received that morsel, he went out immediately. It was night.
When Judas had gone out, Jesus said, "Now the Son of Man has been glorified, and God has been glorified in him. If God has been glorified in him, God will also glorify him in himself, and he will glorify him immediately.”
Don't let your heart be troubled. Believe in God. Believe also in me. In my Father's house are many homes. If it weren't so, I would have told you. I am going to prepare a place for you.
If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and will receive you to myself; that where I am, you may be there also. Where I go, you know, and you know the way."
Thomas said to him, "Lord, we don't know where you are going. How can we know the way?" Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me.
I will no more speak much with you, for the prince of the world comes, and he has nothing in me. But that the world may know that I love the Father, and as the Father commanded me, even so I do. Arise, let us go from here.
When they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives, as his custom was. His disciples also followed him.
When he was at the place called Gethsemane, he said to his disciples, "Sit here, while I go there and pray." He took with him Peter, James, and John, and began to be sorrowful and severely troubled and distressed.
Then he said to them, "My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death. Stay here, and watch with me." "Pray that you don't enter into temptation."
He went forward a little, about a stone's throw, and fell on his face, to the ground, and prayed that, if it were possible, the hour might pass away from him.
He said, "Abba, Father, all things are possible to you. My Father, if you are willing, if it is possible, Please remove this cup from me. let this cup pass away from me; nevertheless, not what I desire, but what you desire."
An angel from heaven appeared to him, strengthening him. Being in agony he prayed more earnestly. His sweat became like great drops of blood falling down on the ground.
He came to the disciples, and found them sleeping, and said to Peter, "Simon, are you sleeping? What, couldn't you watch with me for one hour? Watch and pray, that you don't enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak."
Again, a second time he went away, and prayed, saying, "My Father, if this cup can't pass away from me unless I drink it, your desire be done." He came again and found them sleeping, for their eyes were heavy, and they didn't know what to answer him.
He left them again, went away, and prayed a third time, saying the same words. Then he came to his disciples, and said to them, "Sleep on now, and take your rest. It is enough. Behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.
While Jesus was still speaking, behold, Judas, one of the twelve, came, and with him a great multitude with swords and clubs, from the chief priest, the scribes, and elders of the people.
Now he who betrayed him gave them a sign, saying, "Whoever I kiss, he is the one. Seize him, and lead him away safely." Immediately he came to Jesus, and said, "Hail, Rabbi!" and kissed him.
Jesus said to him, "Judas, why are you here? Do you betray the Son of Man with a kiss?" Then they came and laid hands on Jesus, and took him.
When they saw what was about to happen, they said, “Lord, shall we strike with the sword?" Simon Peter, stretched out his hand, and drew his sword, and struck the servant of the high priest, and struck off his right ear. The servant's name was Malchus.
Then Jesus said to him, "Put your sword back into its place, for all those who take the sword will die by the sword. Or do you think that I couldn't ask my Father, and he would even now send me more than twelve legions of angels?
How then would the Scriptures be fulfilled that it must be so?" shall I not surely drink (the cup which my Father has given me)? But Jesus answered, "Let me at least do this" and he touched his ear, and healed him.
They led Jesus to Annas first, for he was father-in-law to Caiaphas, who was high priest that year.
The high priest therefore asked Jesus about his disciples, and about his teaching. Jesus answered him, "I spoke openly to the world. I always taught in synagogues, and in the temple, where the Jews always meet. I said nothing in secret.
Why do you ask me? Ask those who have heard me what I said to them. Behold, these know the things which I said." When he had said this, one of the officers standing by slapped Jesus with his hand, saying, "Do you answer the high priest like that?"
Jesus answered him, "If I have spoken evil, testify of the evil; but if well, why do you beat me?" Annas sent him bound to Caiaphas, the high priest.
The high priest stood up, and said to him, "Have you no answer? What is this that these testify against you?"
Jesus held his peace and answered nothing. Again the high priest asked him, "I adjure you by the living God, that you tell us whether you are the Christ, the Son of God.
Jesus said to him, "You have said it. I am. Nevertheless, I tell you, after this you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of Power, and coming on the clouds of the sky."
Then the high priest tore his clothing, saying, "He has spoken blasphemy! Why do we need any more witnesses? Behold, now you have heard his blasphemy. What do you think?"
They answered, "He is worthy of death!" Then they spit in his face and beat him with their fists, and some slapped him, they struck him on the face and asked him, "Prophesy! Who is the one who struck you?"
