I inadvertently left China and the US when COVID19 just began to peak in each country, which led me to 2 periods of isolation and a few thoughts:
1) the overseas Chinese community's knowledge of and response to the virus is heavily shaped by what's shared on WeChat
1) the overseas Chinese community's knowledge of and response to the virus is heavily shaped by what's shared on WeChat
2) safety - having access to personal protective items, remote working opportunities, a flight ticket home and etc - is a luxury
3) China's compulsory quarantines keep a lid on infections but the rules are opaque & erratic, a result of clumsy coordination b/t various public (like 街道办) and private players (hotels); with insider info, you can game the system for slightly better food & lodging, if you care
4) These resilience-building tips are cliche already, but they do work: stay physically active, call people, get news from 1-2 reliable outlets instead of 100 different sources, and don't forget to breathe
