As the lockdown continues and even after, you might find that various circumstances make you park your car for long periods without use. It is however a huge risk, if you leave your car unattended for a long time. Here are a few risks that you stand to face when this happens:

Battery break down: Your car needs to be driven regularly to allow the battery to recharge. We recommend longer drives for the battery to recharge fully. If the car is not driven, at least run engine for a daily idling of about 30 minutes or an hour to avoid having a break-down.
Your car’s engine: Your engine has a lot of components that can stand high chances of damage because of corrosion.
Different belts, valves, cylinder walls and wires are susceptible to rust if the car is parked for a long period of time because of low lubrication, which requires that before the car is driven again, different parts must be checked or replaced.
When it comes to your car’s engine, we recommend the daily idling for about 30 mins – 1 hour and a check on your oil seals before the car is driven again because oil seals dry out if the car has not been used for a long time.
Dried seals will often tear, which in effect results in massive oil leaks and have the potential to cause damage in other parts of the car.
Your tyres: These are the only parts of a car which touch the ground and when the car is parked for a long time, they will deflate and you might experience rotting in some areas.
Such tyres are not safe for driving because they develop invisible weak points, which if not inspected, can become fatal. It is important that you move your car around to prevent your car from developing flat spots.
When it comes to your brakes, you may find that in most cases, brake discs and other parts succumb to rust as a result of inactivity. This in turn loosens up the brakes’ grip overtime, which must be replaced to regain the grip.
The easy way out? Keep your car active by driving it around to keep all systems on lock.
Finally, when it comes to your car’s body and paint, a car gains immeasurable value if its paint is well spread and in perfect shape. However, cars that are parked for a long time tend to gather dust and grime that fades away some of paint.
This dust and grime forms a coat that has adverse effects on the paint. Such damage can either be mitigated cheaply by the #SpareWoWashAndShineKit or a car cover that must be kept on the car even if it is parked under a shade or inside a garage.
