This is a negative nelly comment

I’m really concerned how the media is swinging so hard toward “the worst is over” narrative, because daily new cases in the US have leveled off over the last couple days

When what has leveled off is our testing capacity.
You can find this info by looking at the data. By, for instance, reading @MarkLevineNYC’s tweets about how they’ve stopped testing folks who died at home, they’ve simply run out of tests.
I know we all need to get out & get back to work, but the government is making zero moves toward doing ANYTHING that would make that possible: creating infrastructure that would be able to test people for immunity so they can get back to work; & track ppl who might be infected
There are all these misleading data. Like the new German study that said the death rate is actually something like .3% instead of the estimated 3%

The former number is DEATHS IN THE GENERAL POPULATION and the latter is DEATHS OF PEOPLE WHO ARE KNOWN TO BE INFECTED
I have never paid attention to sloppy & misleading reporting as much as I am now. I’ve never lived through a news event as big as this before (from my own perspective. People who have lived through domestic wars, etc., YMMV)
I have noticed before the effect that sloppy and misleading reporting can have on people’s behavior, and on public policy

And so I’m really scared.
I’m also scared about the truly conflicting narratives I’m getting from the scientific community. I know it is early days still for research and people are jamming as hard as fucking possible to find answers & solutions

But is there really long-term immunity from COVID-19?
I see the media assuming there is. I see them assuming that a lot.

I see them reporting on the few scientists who agree & SOMETIMES including comments from the many scientists who are like “well, not so fast—we don’t know that yet” as an afterthought
When I talk about shit like this at home my family gets actually irate at me.

I know I’m negative. They have called me “the voice of doom” since I was little (thank you, undiagnosed autism & anxiety)

I’ve learned to never say “I told you so” even tho it’s infuriating
