No one can prove what "would" have happened.
However, we CAN prove in hard numbers (some of) the damage caused by shutting down the economy. A slow rollout to return people to work, using precautionary measures, is justified by the *evidence* of harm to our nation via shutdown. https://twitter.com/DineshDSouza/status/1248212729552351235
Propaganda campaign to convince people that a prolonged shutdown is necessary is a crime against humanity. Humans need connection, community, structure, and productive work. Psychologically damaging to threaten people with long term isolation! Unethical, unsustainable.
Interesting to note: when government "shuts down", do we even notice?
But when American workers shut down for even a short while.... do we notice?
Who really keeps this country running?
We are more powerful than we realize.
The virus is sadly very real, so a fast return to work isn't a valid consideration- especially given the cost we've already endured to prevent the spread. We wouldn't want all of that to have been for nothing.
Yet, somewhere there is a more balanced solution, and I trust that
our President will start sending America back to work in phases. When he does, I trust that most Americans will respect precautionary measures so that we don't lose any of the progress we've made on slowing the spread.
Meanwhile, CURES are the real answer, and that's happening.
(I should say won't lose "most of"... it's probably unavoidable not to lose some ground when people start resuming normal activities)
I think POTUS has already decided to start sending people back to work, but voicing our support of that is helpful, as he/we are up against a well-funded foreign-backed propaganda campaign to keep us closed.
