Today’s shoutout goes to my 94 y/o grandma’s RURAL fam med doc who had telehealth visit where they asked her to show them how accessible her home is.

They checked:
1) rug in hall = fall risk
2) bath railings
3) food in fridge, if not they send meals on wheels
Med students could help do this for so many seniors if they had accessible technology help.

She also got refills on her meds that will be shipped to her doorstep in rural America.

while they couldn’t listen to her heart, she felt better about this visit than any before.
@aoglasser I think this could be really cool for periop planning for seniors.

@JulieSilverMD PM&R as well could use med students for this purpose.

by doing telehealth, it may also be a good way to ask about guns in the home and ensure they are “locked up” @meganranney
I told gma about how her doc is doing great things. She said it was ok to share this photo w/ my gpa who died in 2010. This was their 70th wedding anniversary. ❤️

They had 10 kids —> 61 grandkids —> 22 great grand kids

They farmed their whole lives to feed America.
Final final update. Basically this entire visit my gma was happy that the doc actually thought about things that OCCUPATIONAL THERAPISTS do everyday. Because OT/PT/SLP visits aren’t covered by Medicaid/care at the moment, physicians and PCPs need to step up to ask these things.
