while I'm on the topic of being a 90s kid and unironic loves, I just want to take a minute to talk about another one that people might already be aware of. Goosebumps.
Goosebumps literally taught me how to read and got me interested in reading and in SFF/Horror. As an adult I might drunkenly poke fun a bit now, but I do owe an enormous debt to Goosebumps as a series.
And, like, some of the books hold up so well. The Ghost Next Door is devastating. You Can't Scare Me! is lit. I kinda engage in an inebriated these days but the books are still FUN. And again, anything that gets kids reading is A+
Me and @SFF_Sridhar were actually talking about how amazing it would be to have a Goosebumps Grown Up anthology or something, by authors new and established who grew up with the books, having a hand at writing stories aimed maybe not at kids but those adults who loved the series
Bc I would read the heck out stories that embrace both the horror and ridiculous fun of the series. @RL_Stine if you see this I know a lot of people who would both love to write and/or throw money at an antho of Goosebumps stories for/about adults.
I would personally love to see both sequels, revisiting maybe some of the established characters, and new stories inspired by and in the vein of Goosebumps.
Amanda from The Dead House is a grown up ghost vampire hunter. A monster support group organizes to stop eating humans. A knight-themed amusement park is actually a recruiting tool by a dark wizard to send people back in time to fight his battles or farm his land.
THERE ARE SO MANY IDEAS! And I get the primary goal is to get kids to read. but i'd love for there to be a way for adult authors to show just how important the series has been by participating in it. Just saying. But please.
