Okay. I'm ready. I'm curious what y'all in #highered and #facdev make of this. How would you address this, if at all? I imagine a lot of people have talked about this prof. I wonder if any have talked to him? Is this a lost cause?

How do we teach care? https://twitter.com/ReadTheSyllabus/status/1248071838657327106
Also, I can almost guarantee this prof. has at one time or another declared that students must "leave their emotions at the door" as if their emotions are a pair of shoes.

And funny enough, his declaration strikes me as highly emotional.

Is this just one bad apple? Not worth addressing? I'm not so sure. I think a lot of faculty believe that care and emotions are outside of their "scope of practice." And "we" haven't supported them in rethinking that assumption. In fact, we often reward it.

I also feel like we need "care ambassadors" on campus. Respected faculty who can talk to their peers, both formally and informally, about teaching and care. This would be worth a course release IMO.
