Social distancing is so obvious in the #lockdown that even public gathering at religious places are restricted; banned. No convention is allowed. One word on which I keep stumbling upon while browsing through newspapers and electronic media is “Temples”. This is such a
generalized term that it astonishes me. Though, by definition “Temple” means a building, an establishment for religious performance and activities such as prayer, sacrifice but is never a subject, discussed broadly. It should be. A “Temple” should be called Devasthan or Devalaya,
or Mandir, because etymology and nomenclature are very roots of Dharma. It is not like a Christian church or a Jewish synagogue. A Hindu Devalaya is strictly constructed with keeping spiritual and holy aspects of architecture in mind. The Deity which resides in innermost sanctum
sanctum is not just symbolic but embodiment of energy, the west calls god. For layman Hindu, we know it Chaitanya(consciousness) and Shakti(energy) . If you watch any form of media which is famous for showing repetitive news again and again, why? because it establishes itself as
truth and same is imparted in its viewers. Similarly, going to Devalayas again and again, one just keeps watching and praying to a Diety(we have 84 Crore forms of God)cultivates the quality and GUNAs of the diety. Scientifically, energy can neither be created nor be destroyed it
it just flows from one medium to another. Here, a deity is embodiment of that very energy. There is a difference between a temple and “Devasthan”. A “Devasthan” construction is not a child’s play and requires specialized architects, designers and sculptor artists. It is unlike
any other building where spiritual and holy aspects are kept aside and maximum use of space is the main objective. Meenakshi Amman temple in Madurai is one prime example. Their architects and designers are world famous. These origin dates back to thousands of years, when Hindu
Hindu Sanatan Dharma was on its peak. Then Devasthanas were not just a place of worship and rituals but also economic and cultural centers. Devalayas drove vast social system of Sanatan Hindu Dharma. Hindu Sanatan Dharma is not a cult or Religion but a way of life which means
highly evolved system of scientific growth.Mandirs were always centers to ensure it. There are 16 sacraments(संस्कार) from birth to death in Hindu sanathan dharma which were all performed around the Devalayas. There are close to 2 million registered temples in India. One can only
can try to ponder what it would have meant when Dharma and Economics(अर्थ) were around temples. . A baby is born and birth sacrament is performed. This requires a yajna. yajna or spiritual performing where GHEE is mandatory offering in the fire. Handmade clothes are must for
all these rituals. Marriages were/are conducted in temple. And India has numerous festivals which are celebrated with most zeal and enthusiasm. And even in modern day whenever a festival is celebrated a mini market develops around it. It drove economics and society together.
These markets provided employment.
In past people uses to have gathering in temple area for personal disputes and issues. Panchayat system is legacy of dispute resolving around temples.
There are just 1 Million+ registered medical practitioners in India for population of 1 Billion. Psychiatrists are western invention so question comes; who is and was maintaining the sanity of rural India. The rural India comprises close to 70% Farmers and 20% artisans.
By what means mental well being of the people who take maximum burden of society were taken care in past? Without these Devalayas and gatherings around it, the way of life and system would have collapsed. This is a fact and later we see proof of it.
There are always outrage on babas and godmen exploiting and fooling people on name of temples etc. But one should remember that no system is perfect and there are exceptions everywhere. A hardcore christian sometimes goes to church only on Sunday.
In fact democracy, the best of modern day civilization is also flawed and failing to even achieve its primary objective. Also a system is, as much ideal as its people. The invaders were aware of this truth, the power of temples and glory around it. Therefore, by targeting centers
of cultural, spiritual, economical and social system, invaders paved way for collapse of India.

Hence, it is essential that Devasthanas and science around it is understood and revived.
