Ben White [A thread] #TFscout
Ben White has burst onto the scene this season comfortably being the Championship’s best CB, and to the surprise of many he has been linked to top Premier League clubs, Liverpool reported to be “scouting him every match.” Here are some images to give you an idea of his profile.
Ben White is a good defender but what makes him outlier is his incredible ability on the ball. In this thread, I will analyse his on the ball qualities including his composure, press resistance and passing range. I will also investigate his defensive and physiological traits.
White is exceptionally calm and composed when the ball is at his feet. Watching various clips of him under pressure on Wyscout, I was very impressed with his reaction to it. He continually scans the field, so he is aware of his surroundings, a trait seen by top midfielders.
He also plans his next pass before receiving the ball. This allows little time for the opposition to win the ball off him, conveyed by only 0.2 dispossessions per90. Overall, his composure of ball allows him to remain calm and let his technical qualities thrive.
He also remarkably press resistance and excels at dribbling. He has 1.17 progressive runs per90 showing a tendency to drive the ball out of the defence. The cluster of passes in the oppositions half on his passing map exhibits his ability to drive the ball to kickstart attacks.
