You can already guess how the language of a united national effort will segue easily into a campaign of massive public spending cuts and redundancies when the economic disaster hits us.
Every cut will be necessary and every complaint at those cuts will be portrayed as coming from some selfish bastard who doesn't want to make the sacrifices everybody else is making
Cabinet Ministers will take a pay cut or something and BORIS LEADS THE WAY will be on the front page of all the obvious papers
NO TIME FOR SLACKERS, they will say, as working hours are extended (and any unemployment benefits that still exist are shredded further). Footage of Johnson working late at Number Ten will be everywhere.
Anyway whatever the precise details, there's got to be a good chance it will go off *something* like this, and you can see the near future prefigured in the tropes, the symbols and the phraseology of the present.
