I hope coronavirus shows people that change is needed to make the NHS sustainable. We have to remember that the NHS is over 70 years old and that 70 years ago the UKs demography was a lot different. 1/7
Today people are living longer meaning we not only have a larger population but an ageing population. In order to sustain the NHS it will take not just taxing the rich but increasing taxes for everyone and this may not even be enough to give everyone what they want 2/7
For the NHS to be sustainable we can’t have a completely free service. People need to be realistic that we need to have a different approach and maybe at some point in the future going to the doctors will be like going to the dentist and people who can pay should pay 3/7
I have these opinions as my mum works for the NHS as secretarial staff and sees first hand the funding issues that the NHS has on a daily basis 4/7
In these pressing times the NHS’s way of dealing with extra workload is to pile it onto their existing staff who are already working at full capacity. In a normal well funded company temporary staff would’ve been employed to help with this extra workload 5/7
Of course the NHS doesn’t have the funds to do this so employees are worked to the absolute max. this is not just office staff this is also doctors just this week in my mum’s department a doctor has gone off sick not with covid-19 but with stress 6/7
Just thought I’d give my opinion in the current climate. I think the NHS is amazing but not sustainable and hopefully people realise that change is needed and the government doesn’t have this endless pit of money. P.S don’t come at me 🥴 #COVID19 #NHS 7/7
