I am perpetually frustrated by the attitude that on these holy days before Easter we ought always remind people that the resurrection has happened. As if it is unseemly or too uncomfortable to take a few days and just feel the grief that yes, even though Jesus resurrects, he does
still first suffer and die. It’s okay to be sad about that. It’s okay to feel it as loss. It’s okay not to chronically need to pretend like we’re only ever in Easter if in him all things really do hold together.

No issues with anyone who in their own parishes and for the good of
their people hold this line, but I am seeing it presented more and more as normative and prescriptive.

Maybe it’s okay to let some people just feel the sorrow sometimes. Yes, there is Easter, but there is a road walked to get there. Let us go with him there as well.
