7 years ago I traveled across Kenya taking photos of railway stations and interviewing people along the way..

Now, with a lot of quaran-time on my hands , I started an Instagram page to relieve the journey https://instagram.com/eastafricarails?igshid=1tgl60kx70vmn
This is also a mini experiment in social media archiving ☺️

...I have nearly 2000 photos just sitting on my computer from this project.
Challenging myself to go through them, not just my favourite ones but also the raw files that didn't make the cut back then 😅... Enough time has passed to see them in a new light
I will always be grateful for what this project taught me....An undergrad Comp science student with no experience working in heritage... just a curiousty and stubbornness to see it through.

There was really nothing to lose. (Except peace of mind of course)
I learnt so much from it...about myself, about institutions, about Kenya...so in a way, it is a self reflection of sorts.

Follow the page if you can. Share your thoughts, memories, perspectives, all are welcome ☺️ https://instagram.com/eastafricarails?igshid=1occp5k27b71r
Later this year I'll attempt to continue the work, expanding it to look at East African Railways and Harbours...

This includes documenting sites and perspectives from Tanzania 🇹🇿 and Uganda 🇺🇬
I don't know how this looks practically or logistically but I'm just setting the intention... We'll figure out the specifics once things settle down
