What if you say: looked after small children / cared for poorly parents / self-isolated for 12 weeks because of underlying condition / tried to avoid attack from an abusive partner that you were locked in a flat with / worked minimum wage supermarket job and hoped not to get ill? https://twitter.com/AIGAeyeondesign/status/1247934646664519680
I hate the idea that we're telling students right now that this moment is an *employability opportunity*.
Loads of my students are volunteering! Loads of them are looking after their kids, their siblings, caring for relatives, supporting their key-worker parents. Lots of them trying to finish essays and dissertations -- worrying about lost jobs -- stressed and anxious about all this.
My students are brilliant, they are going to graduate into a post-virus recession, and who knows what the world will look like. Adding on this sort of extra pressure is inhumane.
