As we continue with our Social Distancing and do what the authorities ask of us during this #Covid19UG Lockdown, there are a few concerns, pieces of advice & general ramblings I thought I'd share with Ugandans.

A Sanitized Thread!

#StayHome #StaySafeUG
1. First of all, my heart goes out to people who are stuck at home with abusive partners, manipulative housemates & generally terrible people. During this lockdown, many families are going through endless days of pain & suffering because of the toxicity of some family members. 😔
2. There are people (both young & old) who are all by themselves during this #Covid19UG lockdown. Let's all make an effort to reach out to the folks in our lives; friends, relatives & colleagues. It will be sad to see people survive the virus and then die of depression.
3. Let's try as much as possible to adhere to the recommendations of the authorities. It is for our own good that we're being asked to #StayHome . Throwing private house parties & secret prayer gatherings defeats the purpose of social distancing.
4. I don't understand, for the life of me, why the Parliament of Uganda continues to sit during a time as tricky as this. The August house is a ticking time bomb. Deliberations are important but life is more important. Why can't Parliament suspend these deliberations already?
There have been so many donations made to the Gov't during this #Covid_19 pandemic. Huawei donated video conferencing equipment not so long ago. Would this not be a good time to put that to use? Besides, MPs were falling over themselves for iPads. What happened to those gadgets?
5. I see people attacking certain companies for donating items they don't necessarily produce. 'Why does UBL donate mattresses or NBL food or Coca Cola Jerrycans?'

The 4WD cars are the president's priority but MOH could do with a lot more than just cars. Every donation counts!
Every donation (no matter how small) towards the #Covid19UG taskforce will go a long way in helping MOH & the authorities avert the Pandemic. Reach out to the Taskforce and give them whatever you can. Just make sure you use the right channels @OPMUganda & @MinofHealthUG
6. There is a misconception that companies producing Alcohol (for consumption) e.g @UgandaBreweries should be making Sanitizer. Not possible. The fact is that the consumable alcohol that UBL works with is not the same as the non-consumable alcohol used to manufacture sanitizer.
The Cos. that supply UBL with consumable alcohol are the same that supply other Cos with nonconsumable alcohol. What UBL & other manufacturers agreed to do (when they met with MOF & UMA) was halt their orders so the suppliers could concentrate on providing nonconsumable variety.
Also, makers of consumable alcohol products like Waragi do not have the capacity to produce hand sanitizer. In addition, consumable alcohol is under 40% in terms of alcoholic content. The one for the Sanitizer is over 75%.

Substitute one for the other and YOU ARE FINISHED!
7. When/if you go to do your shopping, make sure you do it at an establishment that has #Covid19UG awareness as a priority.

Luckily, a good number of Supermarkets have adopted top-notch awareness. Make sure you do your shopping only and only at such establishments. #ShopSafeUG
8. During the Lockdown you should think about how to be productive using the resources at your disposal. Some skills can be discovered & honed during this lockdown for instance Writing, Painting, Singing, Playing an instrument, Cooking, etc.

Don't be a vegetable. Engage!
Try out as many indoor talents & skills as possible. By the end of the Lockdown, there's a chance you'll have uncovered a hidden talent you had never paid attention to.

You might get laid off after the lockdown & the new talent/skill could help you get back on your feet.
9. Finally, @MinofHealthUG toll free lines are still open: 0800-100-066, 0800-203-033, 0800-303-033. Report all suspected cases of #COVID19 so MOH can deal with them.

Remember to Wash your hands, #StayHome & #StaySafeUG

We are tougher than this Virus!
