The decision to allow airlines to start taking bookings for travel effective 15-Apr - when a decision has not yet been taken on the lifting of the lockdown - is unfair on consumers and needs to be reconsidered....continued below #IndianAviation #covidindia
Passengers are being allowed to book flights which ultimately may not operate either because 1) the lockdown is extended or 2) airlines resume with a more limited schedule than is currently open for sale, due to weak demand.
Revenue generated for travel on flights that are cancelled will be retained by airlines as credit for future travel. This was reasonable in the case of services cancelled due to the lockdown, as this was sudden and unforeseen, but not for services from 15-Apr.
The closure of Jet Airways and Kingfisher resulted in many passengers losing money on tickets they had booked, which they were not able to utilise, and which were not refunded.
