It is just lamenting to see that one's opinion, especially if it came from someone who's really religious, can or will easily influence other people even if these opinions might support/enable misleading beliefs on how a person perceives social issues.
I know that some devout people shame me for a very long time now to the point that someone even dared to take a screenshot of my political posts on fb and share it to my parents. But let me tell you this, they raised me well. They know that I am an outspoken person.
Correct me if I am wrong but I made an autobiography about Paul of Tarsus in my World Rel class last term. I have read that he even had an education with the Pharisees-- a Jewish group who were known to be strict followers of Judaism and are called 'Separatists.'
He even suppressed followers of Jesus back then, including Stephen (who was stoned to death), the first Christian martyr. Afterwards, he experienced a divine intervention (he was blinded on the way to Damascus) which made him follow Christ.
As Paul became a follower of Christ, I have read that he has dismissed some Jewish norms. He even said that "there is no difference between Jew and Gentile," (Romans 3: 22--25) as he united Christians regardless of their race,
eradicating the system that shows Jews are more superior than Gentiles (people from foreign land). To add, he even said that the practice of 'Brit Milah' or circumsion of children was not a necessity. He was even thrown in jail due to his dismissal of some Judaic norms.
Paul is one of the persons that I look up to in the Bible. He is one of the people who stood up against inequality and strict traditions which devout people shove other people's throats (even nowadays).
If these pious people would continue this, aren't they different with the Pharisees? Whom the Bible itself described as 'hypocrites' (Matthew 23:13)?
Just my two cents. Call me anything you want but you can't call me dumb. I spent 5 years of my life studying in a Christian school, and I love my current World Religion class this semester, it makes me realize that injustice have already happened in the past that even characters
from the Bible have fought against.
