The Vale of York Hoard captures for me why working @britishmuseum is so fascinating and rewarding. Mysterious buried treasure, Viking raiders, national and global stories and a tale of genuine museum partnership. Everyone loves Treasure! #MuseumFromHome
The spectacular Viking hoard was crammed into a silver bowl and buried in AD 927 and then discovered in 2007 in North Yorkshire by metal detectors. Reminds us that wonderful things are being unearthed all the time, adding to our understanding of our shared past. #MuseumFromHome
It also powerfully demonstrates our global interconnectedness with objects from across Europe, Scandinavia, Russia and Central Asia. This feels very important to remember right now #MuseumFromHome
Finally - it was jointly acquired with @YorkMuseumTrust and this shared custody has led to many collaborations including a huge UK partnership touring exhibition on the Vikings which travelled to York, Southport, Nottingham and finally Norwich - which included Playmobil Vikings!
