While we have been recording, deaths by exhaustion, hunger, denial of medical care, suicides due to lack of food or livelihood, state brutality and crimes - we have also kept a track of deaths as a result of accidents during migration, (2/n)
deaths/suicides as a result of withdrawals, other suicides as a result of fear of infection/isolation, and also of some unclear cases so far. We are also maintaining a thread with a narrower focus: see https://twitter.com/_kanikas_/status/1244118676594233346. (3/n)
This is with the hope of having a conversation on the non-virus deaths during & associated with the lockdown, to display the disproportionate impact of the disease on classes/sections of people, & to prevent invisibilising of such deaths from public & institutional memories (4/n)
- a lot needs to be done to have this conversation be amplified. Not just about the deaths but the huge human costs of the unplanned lockdown. Please feel to teach out to me if you wish to get more information or have some information/suggestion for us. (6/n)
