Thread of why Thierry Henry is the best player to play in the Premier League:
Thierry Henry joined Arsenal from Juventus in 1999 for a record £11m at the time. Henry’s first season at Arsenal consisted of him playing as a striker and a left sided winger which were his preferred positions
Henry’s spell are Arsenal lasted from 1999-2007 before joining Barcelona. In this time, Henry made 254 appearances scoring 174 goals. Before again rejoining Arsenal on loan in 2012.
Thierry Henry’s most memorable season was back in the 2002/03 league season where he scored 24 goals and got a record breaking 20 assists too (still a record to this day and he played striker!)
Henry’s pace and dribbling sucked in defenders which meant his team-mates often enjoyed acres of space in the final third. The Gunners iconic No14 always knew when he’d done enough and the timing of his final ball was exemplary for a prolific goalscorer and was such a team player
In 2003/04 (the Invincibles year) Henry cruised to the Golden Boot with 30 goals. However, six assists in 37 games represented a significantly reduced output in the playmaking department. But take nothing away from a Striker getting 36 goal contributions in 37 games. World class
Wenger once quoted “He has a mixture of physical talent and technical ability, as well as remarkable intelligence and above all a great passion for the game.” Indeed, it’s questionable whether English football will see a player as smart and shrewd as Henry ever again.
Henry changed English football. The Frenchman revolutionised the way strikers were thought of in the Premier League. He showed that the position was about more than just sticking away crosses in the six-yard box. Henry brought a certain art to the role of striker.
With so many iconic Henry moments, from an incredible volley against Manchester Utd in 2000 to an extraordinary solo run vs Tottenham in 2002 and many more including destroying Real Madrid single handily in 2006.
People may argue but for me the Premier league will never see a player like Thierry Henry ever again and for me he is the greatest ever player to grace the English game. With breaking many records and contributing heavily to the success in Arsenal’s history.
