Trying to gauge outcome of #SPFL vote. Although it doesn't impact directly on Premiership clubs will have an eye on possibility of being repeated at that level in a few weeks time. In which case Rangers & Hearts will definitely vote against & possibly St Johnstone
Reasons? Hearts won't want relegation, Rangers won't hand Celtic the title. St Johnstone still have hopes of top six. Others will likely vote for. Outcome: 9-3 or 10-2 in favour
Championship: definitely in favour Dundee United (would be promoted), Alloa, QoTS (both would avoid relegation/play-offs). Against: Thistle for certain. Others are unsure. Clubs in play-off spots may be tempted to vote against if there's a chance Premiership completes season
For if that were the case greater chance play-offs could go ahead. That leaves three - Dunfermline, Arbroath, Morton to weight up chance of getting into top four versus immediate release of cash. Reckon they'll take the money. Likely to be 8-4 in favour
That means sufficient majorities in favour in top two divisions so everything hinges on whether 75% (15 of 20) in lower two divisions back the plans to end the season now. How will they vote? League One definitely in favour Raith (promoted), Peterhead & Forfar avoid play-offs
Stranraer as good as down so no incentive to vote against. One point behind Raith with eight to play Falkirk definitely WILL vote against. Other five? Dumbarton & Clyde nothing to gain by completing season so likely to vote in favour
Unknowns are Airdrie, Montrose, East Fife. Like league above it's a question of possible play-offs v money now. So six in favour, one against, three unknown
League Two Every club from 6th down in favour. No chance of play-offs (with possible exception of Stirling Albion), Brechin avoid play-off at other end. Cove will also vote in favour to gain promotion which they'd get either way. In favour means cash now
as in other leagues it's teams in with a play-off shout that have to weigh up pros and cons. So in this division it's 6-0 in favour with four unknown
So lower leagues 'definites' I reckon to be 12-1 in favour with seven unknown. Three of the seven needed to vote in favour for proposals to pass. What may be decisive factor is this: voting against is no guarantee of completing season. Clubs may find themselves back in same
situation in a month's time but having deprived themselves of release of badly-needed cash now. I reckon it's too tempting for at least three not to vote in favour. On balance I think proposals likely to be passed
IMO that's bad. I reckon all leagues should be treated the same. Fairest way is obviously to complete season but if impossible least UNFAIR is to void the season but there's no need for a decision now and SPFL can release bulk of cash based on lowest position any side can
finish in. BTW it's always possible Premiership can decide en masse to back proposals thinking they're above the common herd but in any case I think there'll be enough
Why no need to decide now? 2020-21 season is due to start in July. There is no one anywhere - not in the SPFL, not in Scottish or UK governments, not in UEFA or FIFA or even the WHO who can confidently claim this will happen. We could well end up with next season ruined as
well as this one. Far better IMO to try to complete this season no matter how long it takes. Should it prove impossible to complete then come back to deciding whether to regard season as over based on current tables or to void
