Will be interesting to see if the IOC has started shopping around the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics to Australian networks... and streaming outlets, along with the CGF shopping around the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
I cannot see 7 being able to afford to cover Tokyo, Beijing and Birmingham in a unprecedented 12 month time period, without cutting costs on Tokyo coverage next year.

My prediction, based on costs from '14: a total of $110m outlay for 2022 Winter Olympics/Comm Games: minimum.
With a lack of a tentpole at the start of the year next year (and possible content from 2020 being held over: I'm looking at you Holey Moley Australia) Seven may be in a position (financially or otherwise) to be unable to act on the options for 2022/24 Olympics with the IOC.
The key date to watch out for, is August 4 2021. Two days before the end of the rescheduled Tokyo Olympics, and 26 weeks before Beijing 2022.

That's when the next Winter Olympics fall off the anti-siphoning list.

2022 Comm Games falls off the anti-siphoning list on 26/1/2022.
If both the 2022 Commonwealth Games and 2022 Winter Olympics fall off the anti-siphoning list, it'll be then fair game for Foxtel, or even Fox Sports/Kayo to bid for them without the requirement for FTA coverage.

That alone, would be a radical gamechanger.
I'd love to hear from others on this thread above (e.g. @SteveMolk)

Very interesting thoughts, as we head into the future of major sporting events rights.
